Ashkenaz, A festival of new Yiddish Culture

Category :: Community
Oh vey! Ashkenaz, A festival of new Yiddish Culture is back, so you better get your fix of Matzah Ball soup now because Bubba won't be in the kitchen from August 28th - September 4th. Gather the mishpokhe and head down to Harbourfront for eight days of Yiddish art, music, theatre, authors, film and more. By bringing together artists from all over the world to celebrate Jewish culture in the Diaspora Ashkenaz presents Yiddish culture for today. Through celebrations, like the colourful and theatrical Pageants and dramatic Havdallah rituals Ashkenaz combines the traditional with the contemporary, the religious with the secular and the finest of art and crafts.

The festival is free to attend, however special performances are ticketed. Highlights of this year's ticketed events include: a commissioned piece by David Buchbinder and Hillario Duran, Klezmer punk artist Geoff Berner and legendary jazz pianists Irving Fields and Maurice El M
