CAMERA presents Nonie Darwish, Arabs for Israel

Category :: Lecture
Author, educator and activist Nonie Darwish, founder of Arabs for Israel, will speak in Toronto next week at an event organized by CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America).

The lecture will take place at Victoria College (Room 323) at the University of Toronto at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4. Admission is free, and the public is invited.

Offering a brave and unique perspective on Islamic fundamentalism, Egyptian-born Nonie Darwish was raised in that environment. Her father was a leading figure in the Fedayeen and was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Israelis prior to being assassinated by the Israel Defense Forces. Darwish was encouraged by Egyptian leader Gamal Abdul Nasser to avenge his death by killing Jews.

As an adult, Darwish rejected fanaticism and moved to the United States, where she founded Arabs for Israel and authored two books: “Now They Call Me Infidel: Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel and the War on Terror” and “Cruel and Unusual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law.” She has also been published in the Wall Street Journal, and has appeared on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, C-SPAN, BBC and Al-Arabiya TV. A world-renowned speaker, Darwish has shared her first-hand knowledge and insights at such institutions as Harvard, Yale, Oxford and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She has also addressed the United States Congress, the European Parliament and the British House of Lords.

CAMERA is pleased to be sponsoring this important appearance, and invites the Toronto community to participate in what will be a unique and engaging opportunity to learn more about a vital public issue. The event is co-sponsored by: BAC (Birthright Alumni Community); Hasbara Fellowships; Hillel of Greater Toronto; CFJS (Canadian Federation of Jewish Students); The House and York Campus Conservatives.
