Jewish Plays on Stage

There are two Jewish plays that are going to be gracing Toronto's stages. One, on stage now at the Winter Garden Theatre, is Shalom Aleichem: Laughter Through Tears, starring Theodore Bikel. The play is by special arrangement with the National Jewish Theatre and is only on until October 18th. For tickets, call 416-872-5555 or go to ticketmaster.ca.

The other play is coming to Toronto in December - Fiddler on the Roof, starring Chaim Topol, the star of the original motion picture! Fiddler on the Roof will be playing at the Canon Theatre from December 8 - January 10, 2010. To order tickets, visit http://www.mirvish.com/.


29th Annual Holocaust Education Week

The 29th annual Holocaust Education Week is being held this year, starting November 1 and ending November 11th. There are numerous events occurring at venues around the city. The Opening Program will be held at Shaarei Shomayim at 7:30PM, on November 1. For more information, please see the Holocaust Education Week's website.


Jewish Artist Spotlight: Kobi Oz (Teapacks)

Kobi Oz, an Israeli musician and the lead singer of the former Israeli band Teapacks, will be coming to Canada in November. Oz's new album, Psalms for the Perplexed, will be performed for the first time outside of Israel, at the Mod Club on College Street. He will be perform the album accoustically with fellow Israeli musicians Johnny Koren, Noam Shlomo and Adam Mader.

As a band, Teapacks sold over 300,000 records, were chosen Band of the Year several times in Israel and were semi-finalists at Eurovision 2007.

Oz has used his fame to organize events to raise the awareness in Israel about the terrible situation in Sderot, writes regularly for the Israeli newpaper Ma'ariv and has written two novels.

The cost for tickets is $15 (advanced through ticketweb.ca) or $25 (at door).

The performance is presented by: Canada-Israeli Cultural Foundation, Israeli House, Koffler Centre of the Arts and the Mifgash Program/The Israeli Forum.
